Parentage : Petrosedum forsterianum Sm. x P. rupestre L.

 

Synonym : Sedum xbrevierei  Chassagne (1956)


Type : Anonymus s.n., Puy de Dome, Auvergne, France

 

Etymology : Named for Pierre-Marie-Louis Brevière (1846-1912) who extensively collected plants in the Auvergne (France).

 

Distribution : CW France.

 

 

Description (by 't Hart & Bleij in IHSP, 2003) :

 

Intermediate between the parents.

 

Leaves semiterete, not conspicuously tufted.

 

Inflorescences drooping in bud, glabrous, bracts rudimentary, only subtending the flowers in the centre of the inflorescence.

 

Flowers : Sepals ± 2.5 mm, petals yellow, ± 6.5 mm, spreading, filaments yellow, glabrous.

 

Cytology : 2n = 104

 

Note :

P. x brevierei is very similar to P. forsterianum, its sterile branches have also a terminal tuft of leaves, and it lacks papillae at the base of the filaments. However the presence of bracts in the inflorescence reminds of P. rupestre.
