SERPENTINICUM var. GIGANTEUM (Eggli) 't Hart, 1999

Synonym : Rosularia serpentinica var. gigantea  Eggli (1987)

 

Distribution : South-western Turkey (only known from the type locality near Marmaris), 150 m.

 

 

Differs from var. serpentinica :

 

Larger in all parts.

 

Rosettes to 11 cm in diameter, usually solitary.

 

Inflorescences to 35 cm long, with up to 120 flowers.

 

Cytology : 2n = 28

 

Due to the large rosettes and the long leaves a well-differentiated taxon. Its occurrence at low altitudes is an exception, as all other taxa of the genus occur at altitudes above 1000 m.
