Sedum

Distribution : Only known from a single valley in Liping County, Guizhou Province, China, growing in limestone areas.

 

 

Description :

Biennial (or perennial ?) herb.

Sterile stems absent.

Rosette present during florescence.

Leaves alternate, broadly obovate, base atttenuate and shortly spurred, 0.5 - 1.5 x 0.4 - 0.7 cm.

Flowering stems 1 - 3 (-4), erect, slender, 3 - 7 cm, bracts sometimes opposite, akin to rosette leaves  but smaller, base shortly spurred.

Inflorescence 3-branched, each branch with 1 - 2 flowers.

Flowers 5-merous, sepals lanceolate-oblong, subequal, ca 2 mm, base shorstly spurred, apex obtuse, petals yellow, broadly lanceolate, ca 4 mm, apex mucronate.

Flowering time : April - May.

 

Sedum lipingense resembles S. subtile and S. bulbiferum but differs from them in retaining a basal rosette during florescence.
