Distribution : Mexico (Nayarit, Durango, Zacatecas); deep shady ravines.

Description (according to 't Hart & Bleij in IHSP, 2003) :

Glabrous perennial herbs with creeping fleshy rootstocks and many slender branches from the base, 10 . 32 cm tall.

Leaves alternate, linear, obtuse, 8 - 15 mm,  ± spreading.

Flowering branches erect.

Inflorescences lax panicles or few-branched cymes, bracts linear, ± 5 mm.

Flowers 5-merous, sessile or subsessile, sepals basally free, shortly spurred, unequal, linear, obtuse, terete, 4 - 6.5 mm, petals nearly free to the broad base, lanceolate to subovate, subobtuse to acuminate, 5 - 10 mm, deep red, filaments reddish.

Cytology : 2n = 58
