Distribution : Mexico (eastern Michoacan); deciduous tropical woodland, 700 m.

 

 

Description (according to IHSP, 2003) :

 

Roots narrowly thickened to 6 mm in diameter, caudex to 8 x 0.9 - 1.3 cm in diameter.

 

Rosette flattish, 15 - 42 cm in diameter with 12 - 20 leaves.

 

Leaves turgid, elliptic-oblanceolate, acute, 10 – 27 x 3.5 - 7 cm, brownish-green with paler lower face, not glaucous, ± channelled, epidermis rough, irregularly low papillose, margin acute, straight or slightly wavy.

 

Inflorescence 25 - 60 cm, scape 5 - 6 mm in diameter, pale green, lower 4 - 5 cm leaf-less, otherwise with 10 - 45 ascending often bifurcate cincinni with 6 – 12 flowers, pedicels ≤ 1 mm.

 

Flowers : Sepals ± unequal, 6 - 7 x 2 mm, thickened upwards, corolla 10 - 11 mm wide, tube greenish white, petals rather dark red ventrally except for narrow yellowish margins, filaments yellow-green, apparently shorter than corolla, anthers pink.

 

Distinct by the irregularly papillate roughened leaves.
