Synonym : Umbilicus horizontalis  J.A.Schmidt (1852)

 

Distribution : Cape Verde Islands; endemic.

 

 

Description (according to IHSP 2003) :

 

Basal leaves orbicular, peltate, petioles long, margin entire to slightly crenate, cauline leaves with progressively shorter petioles, eventually sessile.

 

Inflorescences loose erect racemes, sometimes branched, to at least 30 cm, lower bracts narrowly lanceolate, upper bracts linear, acute, pedicels extremly short.

 

Flowers distant, spreading, erect or pendulous, corolla tubular, dull dirty yellow, petals lanceolate, acute.

 

The relationships with U. horizontalis require investigation.
