Distribution : SA (Northern Cape to Eastern Cape); Bushveld.
Differs from var. orbiculata :
Corolla with a characteristic bulge in the centre.
Decumbent to erect shrubs to 60 cm.
Branches basally succulent, to 35 mm in diameter, bark grey-green.
Leaves very variable, mostly oblanceolate, occasionally linear, terete, green to grey, glabrous or hairy, (4-) 5 - 11 (-14) x (1-) 3.5 - 6 (-8) cm, base cuneate, apex obtuse, mucronate.
Inflorescences to 45 cm.
Flowers : Sepals triangular, 4 mm, tinged red, corolla tubular to 35 x 12 mm in diameter at the base, tube to 27 mm, orange (rarely yellow), petals recurved, to 16 mm, stamens not exserted, anthers yellow, cordate, 1.5 x 1.5mm.
Flowering time : Winter to spring.

Distribution : Afrique du Sud (du Cap-Nord au Cap-Oriental) ; maquis (bushveld).
Différences par rapport à la var. orbiculata :
Corolle avec un bombé caractéristique au centre.
Un port retombant à érigé de 60 cm.
Branches succulentes à la base, jusqu'à 35 mm de diamètre, écorce gris-vert.
Feuilles très variables, surtout oblancéolées, parfois linéaires, cylindriques, vertes à grises, glabres ou velues, (4-) 5 - 11 (-14) x (1-) 3.5 - 6 (-8) cm, base en forme de coin, apex obtus, mucroné.
Inflorescences jusqu'à 45 cm.
Fleurs : Sépales triangulaires, 4 mm, teintés de rouge, corolle tubulaire, 35 x 12 mm de diamètre à la base, tube jusqu'à 27 mm, orange (rarement jaune), pétales recourbés, 16 mm, étamines ne dépassant pas, anthères jaunes, cordées, 1,5 x 1,5mm.
Période de floraison : De l'hiver au printemps.
