Subgenus Aizoon

 

Distribution : Eastern Russia (endemic on Popov Island off the coast at Wladiwostok); sandy shores.

 

 

 

Description (according to IHSP, 2003) :

 

Glabrous herbs with an elongated creeping simple rhizome and strong stems.

 

Leaves in whorls of 3 or opposite, the upper ones early deciduous, ovate or obovate-lanceolate, (sub-) obtuse, sessile, 4 - 6 x 1.8 - 3.5 cm, broadly serrate-dentate with uncinate adjacent teeth, green with small white dots on the surface.

 

Flowering branches slightly flexuose, lustrous, glabrous, to 32 cm.

 

Flowers sessile or subsessile, sepals triangular, thickened, whitish, petals lanceolate, acute, ± 4 mm, golden-yellow.

 

This taxon was recently regarded as synonym of P. maximowiczii (Gontcharova 2000: 126, as Aizopsis), which is here treated as synonym of P. aizoon.
