RECTICAULIS  Borissova, 1939

Synonym : Sedum recticaule  (Borissova) Wendelbo (1952)

 

Type : Korshinsky 2540, Pamir, Tadzhikistan.

 

Subgenus Rhodiola, section Chamaerhodiola

 

Etymology : Lat. ‘rectus’ = straight, ‘caulis’ = stem

 

Distribution : Iran, Kazakhstan, Tadzhikistan (Pamir), NW China (Xinjiang: Tian Shan), rock crevices, 3800 - 4600 m.

 

 

Description (by H. Ohba in IHSP, 2003) :

 

Dioecious, to 15 cm tall. 

 

Rhizomes conical, 3 - 4 cm in diameter, branched, crowned with the remnants of spent flowering stems.

 

Flowering stems numerous, 1.5 - 2 mm in diameter.

 

Leaves ovate to oblong-ovate, 8 - 10 x 0.2 - 0.3 mm, glabrous, tip acuminate, margin coarsely

dentate.

 

Inflorescences dense, compact, rnany-flowered, ± 1.5 - 2 cm in diameter.

 

FIowers 4-merous, shortly pedicellate, sepals ½ as long as the petals, ovate, reddish, petals oblong-elliptic, ± 4 mm, yellow, stamens longer than the petals, filaments yellow, nectar scales subsquare, seeds ca 2 mm, oblong, brown.

 

Flowering time : June to August.

 

Note :

According to Ohba (2011), plants attributed to R. recticaulis might be R. litwinowii or R. imbricata.
