Distribution : SA (Western Cape); Succulent Karoo.

 

Description by Schönland, 1929 :

A shrublet, laxly branched from near the base, 10-12 cm high when in flower.

Leaves, peduncles, bracts, and calyx distinctly pubescent.

About four pairs of leaves crowded near the base of the branches.

Calyx 2.5-2.75 mm long, tube short (about 0.25 mm), light green, sepals subligulate, obtuse, somewhat thickened towards apex, pubescent on the back, ciliate on the margin.

Corolla 3.5 mm long (tube 0.25-0.5 mm long), white, petals oblong, gradually tapering into a slightly channelled point with a globular rudimentary mucro at the back near the apex.

 

Flowering time : Mid-summer.

Distribution : Afrique du Sud (Cap-Occidental) ; Karoo semi-désertique.

 

 

Différences par rapport à la var. atropurpurea :

 

Branches érigées, élancées (4 mm de diamètre), entièrement couvertes de poils rapprochés.

 

Feuilles étroitement ou largement obovales, vertes à rougeâtres, pointes obtuses.

 

Fleurs en denses dichasia, pétales aux extrémités pointues, canaliculés. 

 

Période de floraison : Milieu d'été.
