First mentioned in 1974 in the following article :

 

Glass, C. & Foster, R. (1974) Succulents of Lotusland, the estate of Mme. Walska, Santa Barbara, Calif., Cactus and Succulent Jounal (US) 46(6): 284-285. Abbey Garden Press, Reseda.

On p.285 it says:

"There are many fine selected clones of the Jade Tree, such as 'Sunset Jade', with its leaves tinged with yellow and orange; 'Crosby's Compact Jade', a small, tight, bushy clone; and a clone selected for its exceptionally dark pink flowers."
