Distribution : North-western and western China.

 

 

Description (according to IHSP, 2003) :

 

Rootstock thickening.

 

Flowering stems erect, pale green, ± glaucous, 50 - 80 cm.

 

Leaves in whorls of 3 - 5, shortly petiolate to sessile, oblong, 4 - 7 x 1.5 - 2 cm, tip obtuse, base attenuate, margins interruptedly crenate.

 

Inflorescences terminal and axillary, semiglobose, dense, many-flowered.

 

Flowers : Sepals lanceolate, ± 1mm, petals oblong, reddish, 3 - 3.5 mm, stamens slightly longer than the petals, anthers yellow.

 

Flowering time : August to September.

 

The recently described var. longipedunculum is provisionally placed in the synonymy.
