Differs from ssp. malacophylla :
Rosettes always glaucous, hardly stoloniferous.
Flowers : Petals narrowly oblong with rounded tip, anthers deep yellow.
Cytology : 2n = 24 (Uhl & Moran 1972)
Byalt (2000: 44) recently described O. maximowiczii for the taxon allegedly confused by most authors with O. iwarenge. It is said to differ from the true O. iwarenge by narrower, acute and green leaves, acute petals and trapezoid nectary scales (instead of spatulate). [Ed.]

Différences par rapport à la ssp. malacophylla :
Rosettes toujours pruineuses et à peine stolonifères.
Fleurs : Pétales étroitement oblongs avec extrémité arrondie, anthères jaune vif.
Cytologie : 2n = 24 (Uhl & Moran 1972).
Byalt (2000: 44) a récemment décrit O. maximowiczii pour le taxon censément confondu, par bien des auteurs, avec O. iwarenge. Il serait différent du vrai O. iwarenge par ses feuilles vertes plus étroites et aiguës, ainsi que par ses pétales aigus et ses nectaires trapézoïdaux (au lieu de spatulés). [Ed.]
