Description (by 't Hart & Bleij in IHSP, 2003) :

 

Perennial herbs, sterile stems erect, 10-20 cm tall. 

 

Leaves 4- or 5-verticillate, near base linear-spatulate to oblanceolate, base shortly spurred, apex obtuse to acute, above broadly spatulate, apex obtuse to acute or retuse, base shortly spurred, (10-) 15-20 × (1.5-) 6-12 mm, 

 

Flowering branches suberect, 10 – 20 cm, leaves broadly linear to oblanceolate, alternate in the upper part.

 

Inflorescences many-flowered cymes with 3 or 4 cininni, bracts leaf-like, 10-17 x 1.5-2 mm, pedicels 0-2 mm.

 

Flowers 5-merous, sepals basally free, shortly spurred, linear-oblong, 2-10 x 0.5-2 mm, apex acute, petals narrowly ovate to broadly lanceolate, 6-9 × 2-3 mm, apex acuminate, yellow, anthers red.

 

Flowering and fruiting April to May.

 

Closely related to S. emarginatum and S. jiulungshanense.
