Distribution : Bulgaria; alpine and subalpine rocks, 1000 - 2500 m.

 

 

Description (according to 't Hart, Bleij & Zonneveld in IHSP, 2003) :

 

Rosette open, flattish, 3 - 6 cm in diameter, stolons many, usually short.

 

Leaves velvety glandular-pubescent (Ha ± 0.05 mm), densely ciliate, usually rose-red, 1 – 4 cm.

 

Flowering branches 10 - 20 cm, with the leaves shortly pubescent.

 

Inflorescence purplish with white pubescence, more branched than in the other ssp., to 7 cm in diameter.

 

FIowers 11- to 14-merous, to ± 2.5 cm in diameter, petals carinate, strongly pubescent, keel red-striped,with white indistinct margin, ± 10 mm.

 

This ssp. comprises the velvety-pubescent forms with hairy pink to red flowers. It hybridizes in nature with S. ciliosum.
