MARMOREUM ssp. REGINAE-AMALIAE (Heldreich & Sartori ex Boissier) Zonneveld, 1999*
Synonyms :
**Sempervivum reginae-amaliae Heldreich & Guicciardi ex Halàcsy (1901) / Sempervivum tectorum var. reginae-amaliae (Halàcsy) Maire & Petitmengin (1908)
***Sempervivum macedonicum Praeger (1930)
Sempervivum degenianum Domokos (1936)
Distribution : South-eastern Albania, Greece, north-western Macedonia, Hungary.
Description (according to 't Hart, Bleij & Zonneveld in IHSP, 2003) :
Rosette open, compact, 3 - 10 cm in diameter, stolons stout, usually short.
Leaves densely glandular-pubescent (hairs 0.1 - 0.2 mm), densely ciliate, dull green, rarely rose-red, 1.5 - 5 cm.
Flowering branches 7 - 20 cm, with strongly pubescent leaves.
Inflorescence to 7 cm in diameter, bracts overlapping, large.
FIowers 11- to 14- (sometimes to 20-) merous, to ± 2.5 cm in diameter, petals pink to red-purple, with median red stripe, 8 - 10 mm.
This ssp. comprises the strongly pubescent forms with pink to red flowers. It is rather variable in size. The small form with long stolons (4 - 7 cm) and 16-to 18-merous flowers from north-western Macedonia is sometimes distinguished as S. macedonicum (Parnell & Favarger 1992), but evidently falls within the range of ssp. reginae-amaliae. S. degenianum Domokos is sometimes regarded as a hybrid of unknown parentage.
