MARMOREUM ssp. BALLSII  (Wale) Zonneveld, 1999

Synonym : Sempervivum ballsii  Wale (1940)

 

Distribution : North-western Greece.

 

 

Description (according to IHSP, 2003) :

 

Rosette almost globular, ± 3 cm in diameter; stolons usually short.

 

Leaves abruptly mucronate, glabrous, with very few cilia in the upper part, inner leaves appressed,

outer leaves erect, bright green, tinged with olive-green or yellowish, outer leaves buff to light red, ± 18 x 6 - 7 mm.

 

Flowering branches to 10 cm.

 

Inflorescence small, compact.

 

FIowers 10- to 12-merous, to 2 cm in diameter, petals pink to almost white, 8 - 10 mm, anthers orange.

Flowering time : July - August

 

This ssp. comprises the small glabrous forms with pale flowers. It is sometimes regarded as a synonym of S. marmoreum ssp. marmoreum (Parnell & Favarger 1992).
