SULPHUREUS var. SULPHUREUS   (engl./ fr.)

Distribution : Northern Bushmanland of the Northern Cape Province, confined to quartz gravel or shady, sheer-facing quartz cliffs.

Description (according to Ernst van Jaarsveld in IHSP, 2003, and “Cotyledon and Tylecodon”, 2004) :

Dwarf sparingly branched succulents with a tuberous base (occasionally almost geophytic).

Stems erect, covered with pale phyllopodia.

Leaves small, 5 – 25 x 2 – 8 mm, oblanceolate, elliptic-linear, glabrous but covered with minute papillae, grooved on the upper face, apex obtuse.

Inflorescences erect flat-toped thyrses, 3.5 – 4 cm, of 1 – 3 monochasia.

Flowers : Corolla tubular, 8 – 12 mm, slightly swollen near the middle glandular-pubescent, white, light pink or light yellowish-brown, petals recurved.

Distribution : Bushmanland septentrional (Cap-Nord), sur gravier de quartz ou sur falaises abruptes de quartz ombragées.

Plante succulente naine modérément ramifiée, avec base tubéreuse (parfois presque géophyte).

Tiges érigées, couvertes de phyllopodia pâles.

Feuilles petites, 5 – 25 x 2 – 8 mm, oblancéolées, elliptiques-linéaires, glabres mais couvertes de minuscules papilles, dessus creusé, apex obtus.

Inflorescences en thyrses érigés à tête plate, 3,5 – 4 cm, avec 1 – 3 monochasia.

Fleurs : Corolle tubulaire, 8 – 12 mm, légèrement bombée vers le milieu, avec poils glandulifères, blanche, rose pâle ou marron jaunâtre clair, pétales recourbés.
