Distribution : India (Assam), south-eastern Tibet, Myanmar, China (Gansu, Guizhou, Henan, Hubei, Shaanxi, Sichuan, Yunnan), forest slopes, 1000 - 4000 m.
Description (according to H. Ohba in IHSP, 2003) :
Dioecious, 30 - 100 cm tall.
Rhizomes cylindrical, 0.5 - 2 cm in diameter, sparsely branched when larger.
Flowering stems 1 (-3), 2 - 6 mm in diameter, glabrous.
Leaves mostly ternate and verticils remotely arranged, sessile, ovate to oblong-ovate to rhombic-ovate, 2 – 14 x 1.2 - 6.8 cm, thickly herbaceous, glabrous, spreading, tip obtuse to acute, base round to attenuate or shallowly cordate, margin crenulate to nearly entire.
Inflorescences cymose-paniculate, 2 - 15 x 2 - 8 cm in diameter, pedicels 1.5 - 5 (-10) mm, smooth.
Flowers 2.5 - 3.5 mm in diameter, calyx 1.5 - 2.5 mm, sepals linear-subulate to triangular, 0.6 - 1.2 mm, erect to suberect, petals yellow-green, linear-obovate to oblanceolate (male) or triangular to narrowly triangular (female), 2.8 - 3.2 mm (male) or 0.6 mm (female), reflexed (male) or suberect (female), stamens shorter than the petals, anthers deep red.
