Distribution : Tibet, China (north-western Sichuan, Yunnan); Rhododendron forests, rocky slopes, 3400 - 4800 m.

Description (according to H. Ohba in IHSP, 2003) :

Gynodioecious, to 20 cm tall,rhizomes cylindrical, to 15 mm in diameter.

Flowering stems 2 - 6, 2 – 3 mm in diameter, persistent for 1 year after fruiting, often red-purplish, glabrous, smooth.

Leaves scattered, sessile, ± ascending, linear to very narrowly elliptic, 8 – 18 x 2 - 3 mm, glabrous, smooth, tip round to obtuse, base attenuate to round, margin usually entire.

Inflorescence compactly 20- to 50-flowered, 2 - 3 cm long and wide, pedicels < 2 mm, smooth.

FIowers 7 - 10 mm (hermaphrodite) or 5 - 7 mm (female) in diameter,calyx 3.2 - 3.8 mm (hermaphrodite) or 4 - 5 mm (female), tube ± 1 mm, sepals linear to linear-subulate, 2.2 - 2.7 mm (hermaphrodite) or 2.6 - 3.5 mm (female), petals narrowly oblong-oblanceolate to narrowly oblong (hermaphrodite) or linear to narrowly oblong (female), 5.5 - 6.8 mm (hermaphrodite) or 5 - 6 mm (female), ascending (hermaphrodite) or suberect (female), stamens longer than the petals, filaments 6.5 - 8 mm,anthers reddish.
