Distribution : Growing on lower gravelly slopes with karroid scrub vegetation, in Cape Province, mainly between Worcester and Grahamstown.

 

 

Description by Tölken, 1985 :

Plant erect or often scrambling in other plants, up to 80 cm high, with woody branches 2 - 5 mm in diameter at base, with flaking bark.

 

Leaves 12 - 20 (-25) mm long, 2 - 3 mm broad, bluntly or rarely sharply acute, spreading or curved upwards on young branches, with old leaves deciduous; sheath 0.5 (-1) mm long.

 

Inflorescence a round-topped thyrse, usually with many dichasia and many flowers, often with indistinct peduncle having (0-) 1 pair of bracts without flowers.

 

Flowers : Corolla ca 2 mm long, white to cream, sepals triangular-ovate, obtuse, 1 mm, petals dorsally ridged, anthers brown.

 

Flowering time : Mid-summer to autumn.

 

Note :

Ssp. lignescens is the most common of all subspecies of C. tetragona.
