Description (by M. Kimnach in IHSP, 2003) :
Stem nearly lacking or in some populations to 15 cm tall, sparsely branching.
Leaves ovate to lanceolate, sometimes oblanceolate, 4 – 5 (-9) x 1,5 – 2,5 cm, 3 – 4 mm thick, sometimes mucronate, straight or recurving, usually very glaucous and pale blue but often intergrading to olive or dark brown.
Inflorescences racemose, 25 – 60 cm tall, flowers rather crowded, 15 – 40, horizontal to drooping, pedicels to 4 mm.
Flowers : Sepals erect, clasping the corolla, corolla rather gibbous, 8 – 13 x 5 – 7 mm in diameter, 4 – 6 mm in diameter at the mouth, yellow or orange, often tinged reddish.
Cytology : n = 21
Allied to E. bicolor, differing in its usually shorter (or lacking) stems and denser, horizontal or drooping flowers with erect sepals.

Tige presque absente ou atteignant 15 cm chez certaines populations, modérément ramifiée.
Feuilles ovales à lancéolées, parfois oblancéolées, 4 – 5 (-9) x 1,5 – 2,5 cm, 3 – 4 mm d'épaisseur, parfois mucronées, droites ou recourbées, habituellement très pruineuses et bleu pâle mais ayant souvent des nuances de vert olive ou marron foncé.
Inflorescences en racème, 25 – 60 cm de haut, fleurs plutôt amassées, 15 – 40, horizontales ou inclinées, pédicelles de 4 mm.
Fleurs : Sépales ascendants, serrés contre la corolle, corolle plutôt dodue, 8 – 13 x 5 – 7 mm de diamètre, 4 – 6 mm de diamètre à l'ouverture, jaune ou orange, souvent teintée de rouge.
Cytologie : n = 21
Associée à E. bicolor, elle en diffère par ses tiges habituellement plus courtes, voire manquantes, et par sa densité de fleurs horizontales ou inclinées avec sépales ascendants.
