PRINGLEI var. PARVA  Kimnach 1997   (engl./ fr.)

Type : Spencer s.n., collected on northwestern slopes under shrubs along trail from Cinco Señores to Socayon, San Dimas, Durango, 1350 m. HBG 18306.

 

Etymology : For the very small leaves.

 

Distribution :  Mexico (Durango)

 

 

First Description by Kimnach in Haseltonia 5: 52. 1997 :

 

Stem to 40 cm high or more, much branched, 3 - 5 mm thick, tan.

 

Leaves obovate, cuspidate, upper and lower sides convex, 10 - 15 mm long, 5 - 10 mm wide, 5 - 6 mm thick near apex, glabrous, green, margin and apical half of lower surface often heavily reddened, very minutely papillose.

 

Flowering stems to 20 cm long, with 5 flowers or more, pedicels 4 - 6 mm long, ca 2 mm thick.

 

Flowers : Sepals ascending, lanceolate, acute 6 - 8 mm long, corolla 12 - 14 mm long, ca 8 mm thick, light orange.

 

This variety differs from var. pringlei in its very small, nearly glabrous, reddened leaves.
