TOMENTOSA ssp. TOMENTOSA (engl./ fr.)
Distribution : SA (Cape Province, in very localized populations from near Ladismith to near Steytlerville, growing on lower gravelly slopes in sheltered ravines)
Description (by E. van Jaarsveld in IHSP, 2003) :
Dwarf freely branched compact rounded shrublets to 11 cm.
Branches green with long hairs.
Leaves variable in hairiness, shape and marginal teeth, 2,3 – 6,5 x 1,5 – 3,2 cm, oblanceolate to oblong, flattened, green, tomentose, upper 1/3 with 3 – 8 reddish teeth.
Inflorescences to 16 cm with 1 – 3 dichasia, peduncle reddish, 4 mm in diameter at the base, pedicels 7 – 8 mm.
Flowers : Sepals green, 6 x 5 mm, corolla orange-red, 12 – 16 mm, tube 15 x 9 mm, petals 10 mm, recurved, stamens exserted for 3 and 5 mm respectively, anthers yellow, 1,5 mm, flattened.
Flowering time : July - September
The cultivar 'Wol-ore' is notable for the shaggy hairs: Leaves 4 x 2,8 cm, with long woolly hairs.

Distribution : Afrique du Sud (province du Cap, en peuplements très localisés, des environs de Ladismith jusqu'à Steytlerville, poussant sur de basses pentes gravillonneuses en ravins abrités).
Description (par E. van Jaarsveld dans IHSP, 2003) :
Buisson nain compact et arrondi, librement ramifié, atteignant 11 cm.
Branches vertes avec de longs poils.
Feuilles variables en pilosité, forme et dents marginales, 2,3 – 6,5 x 1,5 – 3,2 cm, oblancéolées à oblongues, aplaties, vertes, duveteuses, la partie supérieure comportant 3 – 8 dents rougeâtres.
Inflorescence de 16 cm avec 1 – 3 dichasia, pédoncule rougeâtre de 4 mm de diamètre à la base pédicelles 7 – 8 mm.
Fleurs : Sépales verts 6 x 5 mm, corolle orange-rouge, 12 – 16 mm, tube 15 x 9 mm, pétales 10 mm, recourbés, étamines dépassant, respectivement, de 3 et 5 mm, anthères jaunes 1,5 mm, aplaties.
Période de floraison : Juillet-septembre.
Le cultivar 'Wol-ore' est remarquable pour sa forte pilosité : Feuilles de 4 x 2,8 cm aux longs poils laineux.

A different form of C. tomentosa ssp tomentosa which for a long time has been distributed as C. tomentosa ssp. ladysmithiensis - due to a photo published by Jacobsen in several of his books, wrongly labeled as "C. ladismithiensis" :
