Distribution : Mainly in southern Namaqualand as far north as Springbok and extending southwards into the Tanqua Karoo and southern Roggeveld Mountains (Cape Province), growing on lower dry gravelly slopes, often in shade of other vegetation.

 

 

Description (according to Tölken, 1985) :

 

Plants much branched with thick stems abruptly constricted at base and bearing tuberous roots.

 

Leaves oblanceolate to elliptic, rarely obovate or lanceolate, (15-) 20 – 50 mm long, terete or somewhat concave towards apex on upper surface, with marginal ridge brown or white and often raised but usually not horny, more or less verrucose, without purple spots.

 

 

Descripton (according to EvJ in IHSP, 2003) :

 

Differs from var. marianiae :

 

Densely branched, constricted at the base.

 

Roots tuberous.

 

Leaves variable in shape and texture, lanceolate to oblanceolate, 1.5 – 5 cm, lamina slightly dorsiventrally flattened to terete, grooved in the upper ½, surface green becoming grey or reddish to brownish green, smooth or tuberculate, margin white to brown and horny near apex.

 

 

Flowering time : December and January

Distribution : Surtout dans le sud du Namaqualand, dans une zone allant de Springbok et s'étendant au sud, dans le Tanqua Karoo et le sud des monts Roggeveld (Province du Cap), poussant sur la partie inférieure des pentes gravillonneuses, souvent à l'ombre d'autres plantes.

 

 

Description (selon Tölken, 1985) :

 

Plante très ramifiée, avec tiges épaisses brusquement resserrées à la base et munie de racines tubéreuses. 

 

Feuilles oblancéolées à elliptiques, rarement obovales ou lancéolées, (15-) 20 – 50 mm de long, de section ronde ou quelque peu concave vers l'apex sur la face supérieure, avec marge marron ou blanche et souvent saillante mais pas cornée, plus ou moins verruqueuses, sans taches violacées.

 

 

Descripton (selon Ernst van Jaarsveld, dans l'IHSP, 2003) :

 

Différences par rapport à la var. marianiae :

 

Densément ramifiée, resserrée à la base.

 

Racines tubéreuses.

 

Feuilles variables en forme et texture, lancéolées à oblancéolées, 1,5 – 5 cm, limbe de section légèrement aplatie ou ronde, cannelées dans la moitié supérieure, surface verte devenant grise ou rougeâtre à vert-marron, lisses ou tuberculées, marge blanche à marron et cornée près de l'apex.

 

 

Période de floraison dans l'habitat : Décembre et janvier.
