First described by A. Berger in Gartenflora 53: 200 - 206, 1904 :
Sedum – Cotyledon – Echeveria – Diotostemon sodalis A. B.
Stem short and thick, almost 3 cm in diameter.
Leaves up to 15 – 20 in shape of a rosette, curved, lanceolate-spathulate, 9 cm long, almost 3,5 cm wide in the upper quarter, blunt with short mucro, turgid and with blunt margins, light grey, reddish tinged.
Inflorescence 40 – 50 cm long, slender, pendent, with few lanceolate bracts, bi- or trifurcate, pedicels 7 mm long
Sepals very unequal, linear-lanceolate, 10 – 15 mm long, 5 mm wide at base.
Petals lanceolate triangular acuminate, keeled, at base bulbous, with two tiny appendages; recurved, thin red striped. Carpel conical, style reddish.
