Distribution : Mexico (Nuevo Leon), on gypsum hillsides, 1340 m.

 

 

Description (according to 't Hart & Bleij in IHSP, 2003):

 

Perennial (?) herbs with fibrous roots, 5 - 8 cm tall.

 

Stems 3-4 mm in diameter near the base when dry, papillose.

 

Leaves alternate, ovate when dry, 7-10x3-4 mm, gradually becoming smaller towards the stem tips, soon deciduous near the stem bases, somewhat overlapping and covering the stem axis.

 

Inflorescences terminal with short circinnate branches, 5- to 10-flowered, congested.

 

Flowers : Sepals 5, ovate, glabrous, petals ±3x1.5 mm, free to the base, red, with a dorsal keel, stamens 5, alternate with the petals, 3 mm, anthers yellow.
