Distribution : Eastern Himalaya (Sikkim), eastern Tibet, south-western China (western Sichuan,

north-western Yunnan); rock crevices, 2200 - 5300 m.

Differs from ssp. coccinea:

Flowering stems purplish-red, densely papillate to scabrid, 3 - 5 cm taIl.

Leaves linear, 3 - 9 x 0.6 - 1.5 mm, tip obtuse, acute or acuminate.

Inflorescences 1- to 4-flowered.

FIowers 5-merous, purplish-red, carpels 3 - 5 mm with 6 - 12 ovules each, fruits 6 - 8 mm, seeds 2 - 2.5 mm, linear, brown, winged.
