Type : Ecklon & Zeyher 1852

Distribution : SA : Found mainly in the south-western Cape Province from near Clanwilliam to near Bredasdorpo with an additional odd record from near Springbok ; close to the coast in salt marshes.

 

Description (by Tölken in Flora of Southern Africa, 1985) :

Plants erect and usually in dense stands.

Leaves almost cylindrical to clubshaped, with blunt rounded apex, 3 – 5 mm long.

Petals usually broadly ovate, acute to acuminate and often twice as long as sepals.

Squamae broadly T-shaped with narrow base half as along as upper portion.

Flowering time : September – November (spring and early summer).
